What is Manganese (IV) Oxide? Also known as manganese dioxide (MnO2), is a black or dark brown solid that occurs naturally as the mineral pyrolusite. It is a compound with manganese in the +4 oxidation state. Manganese(IV) oxide is widely used as a reagent in inorganic synthesis, as a pigment in ceramics and glass, and most notably, as a depolariser in dry-cell batteries (both alkaline and zinc-carbon). It also acts as a catalyst in various reactions, including the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.
Consistent Quality: We provide only high-quality Manganese (IV) Oxide, ensuring reliable and consistent performance for all applications.
Shipped from Manchester, UK Facility: Sourced and packaged in non-toxic, chemical-resistant containers to ensure safe handling and preserve product quality during transport.
Batteries
The principal use for MnO2 is for dry-cell batteries, such as the alkaline battery and the zinc–carbon battery, although it is also used for other battery chemistries such as aqueous zinc-ion batteries.
Ceramics and Glass
Used as an inorganic pigment to colour ceramics and glass. Can also be used to decolourise glass that has been coloured green by iron impurities.
Organic Chemistry
MnO2 is a mild oxidising agent used in organic chemistry, particularly for the oxidation of allylic alcohols to α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and ketones.
