Nitrocellulose Mixed Ester (MCE) Membrane Filters with Hydrophobic Edge, 0.45 Micron, 47mm

Advantec Mixed Cellulose Esters (MCE) membranes, composed of a blend of cellulose nitrate and cellulose acetate, are specifically designed for microbiological analysis of water and wastewater. Featuring a hydrophobic edge, these filters prevent sample creep beyond the filtration area, ensuring clean, accurate results. They offer high porosity, fast flow rates, and excellent microorganism recovery, making them ideal for detecting contaminants such as E. coli in water quality monitoring.

Available in both gridded and ungridded formats, these filters support both manual and automated colony counting. The white surface aids visual contrast for observing colonies and color reactions, while clearly spaced 3.1 mm grid lines reduce eye fatigue. The non-toxic ink is free from bacterial growth inhibitors, ensuring reliable performance in sensitive testing environments.

Key Features

  • Hydrophobic edge prevents sample creep
  • High porosity and excellent flow rates
  • Ideal for wastewater, environmental, and microbiological monitoring

MCE Filters in Microbiological Applications

Many microbiological techniques include colony counting after incubation as the standard method of quantification. Gridded filters have clearly defined grid lines spaced at 3.1 mm intervals. The special ink used is nontoxic and completely free from bacterial growth inhibitors. White gridded disks are designed for the recovery and retention of E. Coli bacteria in water/waste-water analysis as well as other microbiological tests. Black mixed cellulose esters(MCE) are available plain for automatic colony counting applications, as well as gridded to assist in manual counting procedures. Black MCE membranes provide contrast between residue or cell colors and the filter without having to counter-stain the membrane.
