This Methylene Blue Loeffler formulation is commonly used as a counterstain in the acid fast bacilli staining methods.
It is also useful for observing varieties of bacteria such as Corynebacterium diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria, etc .
The Loeffler's formulation can also be used to detect Helicobacter pylori in paraffin sections and touch smears of gastric mucosal biopsies.
