Methylene Blue 4% Solution is a high-strength aqueous solution of USP grade methylene blue a synthetic dye with the formula C₁₆H₁₈ClN₃S. Dissolved at 4% in grade 1 purity distilled water, this formulation is additive-free, alcohol-free, and manufactured in the UK.
We were the first to recognise the need for a clean, commercially available methylene blue free from unnecessary additives. Many off-the-shelf solutions contain alcohol, stabilisers, or preservatives, which can interfere with purity or cause compatibility issues. Ours doesn’t.
APC Pure’s formulation uses only:
No Alcohol or Additives: 100% water-based, no ethanol, stabilisers, or preservatives.
Made in the UK: Bottled in our ISO-accredited facility using chemical-resistant, UV-protective amber glass.
Non-Hazardous (CLP Classification): Safe to use in educational and domestic environments.
Precision Packaging: Available in 50ml to 1L sizes, including a pipette cap option for 100ml bottles.
USP Grade Methylene Blue: <4%
Distilled Water: Grade 1 purity
Each drop contains approximately 2.0 mg of pharmaceutical grade methylene blue powder.
Please note: All stated ppm figures relate to a 4% solution. For example, 1 ppm in powder equates to roughly 0.04 ppm in a 4% aqueous solution.
We manufacture and supply specialist solutions but are not medically trained. If you're considering ingestion, please consult a medical professional before purchase. We supply only, responsibility for use lies with the customer.
We use UV-resistant amber glass bottles, which naturally appear brown. Product images are taken with water to show the bottle design. The actual product inside is a dark blue solution.
This depends on preference. The solution offers convenience and less mess, with a pre-set concentration. The powder gives more control but requires accurate measuring and clean storage. Methylene blue can be messy either way.
If stored in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, unopened bottles will last a long time. Once opened, avoid contamination to prevent microbial growth. If the solution shows signs of spoilage (e.g. floating particles before shaking), it should be replaced.
Methylene Blue is a dye and will stain most organic materials. The best cleaning agent we’ve found is isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Always test on an inconspicuous area first.
We can’t give specific advice, but vitamin C has been shown to reduce or neutralise the blue colour in some cases.
We’re a long-standing UK manufacturer of chemical solutions. Our methylene blue powder is sourced directly from the manufacturer, and our grade 1 distilled water is produced on-site. Everything is made and bottled in-house no surprises.
No, Methylene Blue is a synthetic dye, so claims like “organic” or “non-GMO” don’t really apply. It's also suitable for vegans, but we avoid using that label for marketing purposes.
At 4%, the solution is close to its maximum solubility. Some sediment may form over time, just shake well before use. If sediment is floating before shaking or the solution has been open too long, it may be spoiled and should be replaced.
